2015 Albia Golf Club Championship
At the same time that Zach Johnson was bringing home the British Open title to Iowa on Monday, Ian Flahive was making his mark in Albia by claiming the 12-13 year-old championship at Albia Golf and Leisure.
Ian shot 40 in seven holes to win over Cooper Hassinen with 51 and David Fisher with 55. Liam Winfield was next with 56, Jackson Pence had 60, Chase Maddison had 62 and Payton Rubel had 73.
In the 10-11 year-old boys division played over seven holes, Landen Simpson had 48 to win by a comfortable margin over Isaac Shroeder and Sam Shepard with 63. Cooper Gray had 71. The 10-11 year-old girls division was claimed by Ella Zaputil with 36.
The 8-9 year-old grouping over four holes was won by Connor Fisher with 34. Cael Schofield had 39, Cooper Bradley had 41 and Casen Baker had 87. Emma Bradley won a close match in four holes with 33 in the 8-9 year-old girls division. Lucy Hassinen had 36, Olivia Kaster had 41 and Brianna Wolfer had 47.
In a tight grouping of three golfers, Owen Hassinen shot 33 in four holes to win over Carson Sohn with 35 and Cole Wilson with 39. Grace Pence was the 6-7 year-old girls champion with 46.
Josiah Kaster was the 5-year old champion with a 40 in four holes.
A total of 25 juniors participated in the Championship and over 30 different junior golfers participated in the eight-week league that began June 1.
