2014 Albia Golf Club Championship
The 17th annual Albia Golf Club Junior Championship was held Monday, June 21 with 32 golfers competing in seven age divisions.
There was additional drama on the course for the 2014 version of the Championship as three of the divisions went into playoffs to decide the winner.
In the 14-15 age boys group, Trent Garver won a playoff over Nick Maddison to claim the trophy after shooting 46 for nine holes. Garrett Gray was third with a 61.
In the girls 14-15 age group, Sydney DeBruin shot 41 for first place in six holes as Jade Van Polen had 46 and Jordan Winke shot 50.
In another playoff, Gage Wilson defeated Ian Flahive in the boys 12-13 age grouping by winning the first playoff hole after both golfers shot 43 for seven holes. Close behind in third place was Cody Kosman with a 47.
In a grouping of seven golfers in the boys 10-11 age bracket, Chase Maddison won by eight shots with a 41 in seven holes. David Fisher fired a 49 and Jackson Pence a 50 to claim second and third place respectively. Cooper Hassinen was in fourth place with a 55.
Connor Fisher won the 8-9 year old boys division in a tight contest, shooting a 35 for four holes. Landen Simpson shot 38 for the second place trophy and Sam Shepard shot 39 for the third place trophy. Emma Bradley shot a 22 for four holes including a birdie three on the par 4 third hole to narrowly defeat Ella Zaputil by three shots in the girls 8-9 division. Lucy Hassinen was third with a 38 in her first year of golf.
Cael Schofield won a playoff to capture first place in the boys 6-7 age division. Schofield and Cooper Bradley both shot 26 and Owen Hassinen shot 37 over four holes.
Over forty different junior golfers played two months of league play prior to the Championship.
