2013 Albia Golf Club Championship The 16th annual Albia Golf Club Junior Championship was held Monday, August 5 with 31 golfers competing in nine age divisions. The round of the tournament was posted by Trent Garver with a 40 over nine holes to claim the age 12-13 boys division by six shots over Nick Maddison. Karter Spieler shot a 58 to win the third place trophy in the largest grouping that included nine junior golfers. Tyler Maddison won the 14-15 year old division with a 44 as Landon Hermsen shot 58. With golfers in four age divisions, the Maddisons claimed another first place trophy when Chase Maddison secured the top spot with a 46 over seven holes. Ian Flahive was a single shot behind with a 47 while David Fisher shot 54 for third place. Landon Simpson won the 8-9 year old division with a 40 over four holes with Cooper Gray shooting 52 and Sam Shepard recording a 57 for second and third place. In a four hole contest, Conner Fisher and Cael Schofield shot 28 with Conner winning the one-hole playoff to take the top spot. Two more strokes back in third place was Spencer Maddison. Ty Pickerell won the five and under trophy with a 42 over four holes. In the girls divisions, Sydney DeBruin won a close competiton in the 14-15 year old grouping, shooting a 40 over five holes. Jordan Winke shot 41 and Meghan Crall shot 43 for second and third place trophies. Jade Van Polen continued her stellar play with a 29 over the same five holes for first place in the 12-13 girls age group. Ella Zaputil improved by nine shots from last year to shoot an outstanding 27 over four holes, including a par 4 on her third hole of play. Her first place trophy in the 8-9 year old girls division was a victory over second place Emma Bradley with a 48. Over forty different junior golfers played two months of league play prior to the Championship.
