The Iowa P.G.A. announced this week that the Albia Junior Open will be a point event in 2003!!!!!
What's a POINT EVENT? Each year juniors play a tour across the state competing for the honor of being "Junior Player of the Year" in the girls or boys age division for 14-15 year-olds and 16-17 year-olds. It is also a big honor to be listed in the top twenty for each age group. Look at the point events for this year and winners last year by "clicking" on the "Iowa Junior Tour" icon on this site and browse the P.G.A. site under "Junior Tour".
2001 Albia Junior Open Leaderboard
The Albia Junior Open was held at the Albia Country Club on Monday, July 30 with 35 golfers playing in four age divisions.

The final event of the season for the juniors includes some the best junior golfers in the area as well as Albia's top junior golfers.

Albia was able to claim the top spot in two of the four age divisions with Eric Duea capturing the 14-15 year old age division and Luke Goemaat winning the 12-13 year old division by a large margin.

Duea shot a pair of 39's for 78 to win by two shots over Adam White of Ottumwa. Scott Anderson of Ottumwa placed third with a 93.

Goemaat had a stellar round, firing a 43-38 for an 81 and a 13-shot victory margin over Kyle Durkin of Ottumwa. Colton Cason of Albia finished third with a 97.

Jeff Giza of Osceola won the 16-17 year old division with a 77, one shot ahead of Brett McDannald of Corydon. Dustin Crawford of Osceola defeated Bill Scieszinski of Albia in a three-hole playoff for the third place trophy.
