2016 Albia Golf Club Championship Ian Flahive led the field of junior golfers on Wednesday, July 20 by shooting a 37 over seven holes to claim first place in the 14-15 year old boys division held at Albia Golf and Leisure. In a very tight match, David Fisher won the 12-13 age division by shooting a 45 over seven holes. Hunter DeMoss was second with a 48, Cooper Hassinen was third with a 54 and Payton Rubel was fourth with a 55. The top three spots came down to the last hole as well in the boys 10-11 age division with Landen Simpson prevailing with a 49 over seven holes. Connor Fisher was second with a 51 and Isaac Schroeder was third with a 54. In his first year, Kervin Veasley finished with an 80. The girls 10-11 age division was contested over five holes with Emma Bradley shooting a 38 for first place. Ella Zaputil was within two shots with a 40 and Maggy Spurgin had a 57. Lucy Hassinen became ill in Wednesday's heat with just two holes left after giving up a two shot lead she had at that point. In the girls 8-9 year-old age division, Brianna Wolfer shot 29 in four holes for the first place trophy followed by Emma Doll with a 33 and Aubrey Fisher with a 41. The boys title was another extremely tight match with Cooper Bradley making it a family sweep of first place trophies with a 23 over four holes. Grant Powers won a one hole playoff with a birdie three after tying for second with Cael Schofield with 25 strokes. Owen Hassinen was right behind with a 27, Cole Wilson had 37 and Kamerson Veasley had 46. Grant Wilson shot 39 in four holes to win the 6-7 boys age division. Over 30 golfers participated in league each week beginning on June 6.
