2008 Albia Golf Club Championship
The Albia Golf Club Junior Championship was held Monday, August 11 with a total of 25 golfers participating in 10 age divisions.
Conference medalist Kevin Fitzpatrick repeated as the 14-15 year old boys division champion with a fourteen hole total of 54, defeating incoming freshman Zach Sulentich by eight shots. Dillon Wilson was third with a 66 and Erik Schofield completed the group with a 70.
In addition to Sulentich and Erik Schofield, more help is on the way in a couple years for the conference champion boys as Drew Schofield captured the 12-13 year old division over seven holes with a 43 defeating Jacob Major.
Tyler Maddison won the 10-11 boys division by firing a 46 over seven holes. Landon Hermsen shot 56 and Matthew Starcevic had a 70.
Tyler Piper continued his steady play this summer by outlasting Nikki Maddison in the 8-9 year-old division. Tyler shot 44 while Nikki finished with 52. Dawson Hermsen shot 60 and Garrett Gray completed the group with a 65.
Nicholas Piper made it two trophies for the family by taking the 6-7 year old division with a 46 over seven holes. Ian Flahive shot 63. Chase Maddison won the five and under grouping with a 33 over four holes.
In the girls divisions, Anna Riley won the 14-15 year old division with a 56 over seven holes, improving her total by 12 shots from last year's tournament.
Cassie Crall shot 48 over seven holes to win the 12-13 year old girls division. Her 15 stroke improvement from last year's tournament shows that there is also help on the way in a few years for the conference champion girls golf team. Ariel Lawrence fired a 56 and Hannah DeBruin shot 60 to complete the group.
Lexie Van Polen regained her 10-11 year old trophy by shooting a 45 and another 14 shot improvement in one summer. She defeated Macy Lawrence, who shot a 66.
Jade Van Polen won a close match in the 8-9 year old grouping with a 53, outlasting Sydney DeBruin, who had 57. Jena Lawrence was the 6-7 year old champion with a 45 over four holes.
A total of 36 junior golfers participated in the different events held at the Albia Golf Club the past ten weeks.
